The Wizard's Curse

You wave to the unicorn and fairy to both come talk to you. "The wizard," you say. "What can you tell me about him?" Both the fairy and the unicorn glance toward the horizon, where a thin ribbon of purple mist curls into the sky. "He's grumpy and impatient," the fairy says. "He doesn't like when people agree." "He lives in a crooked tower," adds the unicorn, "where nothing stands straight and nothing feels settled." The fairy lowers her voice. "The spell grows stronger every time someone argues. That's why everything feels so backwards." You hesitate, then admit, "I'm not even sure how I got here. One moment I was in the mirror maze... and the next, I was here. I need to find my way home." The fairy and the unicorn exchange a worried look. "That's part of the problem," the fairy says. "The arguing has affected the travel portals between our land and the human world." The unicorn nods. "Normally, traveling between realms is easy. Fairies use magic dust from their wings, and unicorns use magic from their manes. Together, the magic opens the portals." The fairy sighs, brushing her wings. "But the wizard's Disagreement Spell scrambled the magic. When we argue, the dust doesn't work." You swallow. Helping them might take time.
