The Case of the Missing Cookies

You kneel down beside your dog's food bowl. There are cookie crumbs everywhere — on the mat, in the bowl, even on your dog's nose! "Rex," you say in your best detective voice, "do you have anything you'd like to tell me?" Your dog looks up at you with big, innocent eyes… and then burps. A puff of sugar dust floats out. "Aha!" you shout, pointing your magnifying glass dramatically. "I knew it! You're the cookie bandit!" Rex wags his tail, clearly proud of himself. You can't help but laugh. You reach down and scratch his ears. "I guess Santa will understand," you tell him. "He loves cookies too." You decide to bake another batch, this time keeping them on the highest shelf — way out of paw's reach. When you come downstairs on Christmas morning, you find a note from Santa that reads: "Nice work, Detective! I heard you solved the case. I left Rex a little something for his sweet tooth." Next to your stocking is a small dog treat shaped like a cookie. The End.
