The Emerald Crown

You decide to take the path revealed behind the stone slab. The tunnel slopes downward, and the air grows colder with every step. The sound of dripping water grows louder until the passage opens into a vast, hidden cavern. At its center lies a perfectly still lake. The water is so smooth it looks like polished glass, reflecting the glowing crystals on the ceiling above. Pale mist curls across its surface. The cave feels calm—peaceful in a way that makes you want to stop walking and simply breathe. You step closer. The Mark of Balance in your palm stays warm… but it does not pulse. You scan the cavern carefully. There are no footprints along the shore. No tools. No voices. No sign of cave gnomes—and no sign of the Emerald Crown. The silence feels heavy. You wait, watching the water for movement. Nothing changes. The lake remains beautiful, empty, and untouched. With a final glance at the mirror-like lake, you turn back, retracing your steps through the cold tunnel. Time slips away as you climb back to the fork in the cavern. The iron-gate path still waits.
