The Wizard's Curse

The unicorn and the fairy lead you to the edge of the Sparkle Forest. The trees shimmer softly, their leaves glowing even though the sunlight drifts backward across the sky. "This is the path," the unicorn says, pointing to a narrow trail that stretches straight ahead. But as soon as you take a step forward, the fairy hovers higher. "Are you sure this is best?" she asks. "The Crystal Hills might have been safer." The unicorn snorts. "The forest is faster." "The hills are clearer," the fairy insists. As they argue, you notice something strange. The path in front of you begins to twist. What was once straight slowly bends into a crooked, looping line. "Wait," you say, pointing. "The path--it changed." The unicorn freezes. Then his ears droop. "That's... another side effect of the wizard's spell," he admits. "When creatures argue, the paths turn crooked." The fairy's wings dim. "I'm sorry," she says softly. "I shouldn't have argued." The unicorn nods. "I'm sorry too." As their voices calm, the path straightens again, settling firmly beneath your feet. The fairy smiles. "Thank you for trying to help us." The unicorn bows his head. "Good luck." You step onto the path and continue forward--alone--toward the wizard's castle.
