You race to the Library. The librarian, Ms. Willow, is shelving books.
"Ms. Willow," you whisper, holding up the note. "Do you know anything about a surprise party with cupcakes in the 'big book corner'?"
Ms. Willow smiles a secret, knowing smile. "Well, that note was written by Sarah from 5th grade. She asked me to help her with a special project. She needed a good hiding place."
"Where is the big book corner?" you ask.
Ms. Willow points to the giant, oversized books that sit on a special shelf near the back. "Those books are heavy. The perfect distraction. They block some of the view behind them."
You rush to the oversized book section. You find Sarah kneeling behind the books. The silver platter is next to her, completely full of the twenty-four Perfect Valentine Cupcakes. A large banner covered in pink paint, markers, and glitter is spread out on the floor. Sarah is carefully studying a cupcake, trying to match its swirl of frosting on the banner.
"Sarah!" you exclaim. "Everyone in my class thinks the cupcakes were stolen! Ms. Lily is frantic!"
Sarah looks up, startled, a little smear of pink paint on her nose. "Oh no! I'm so sorry! I just borrowed them quickly. I was making a surprise 'Happy Valentine's Day' banner to hang over the table, and I needed the real cupcakes here so I could draw them perfectly. I was just about to bring them back!"
Ms. Lily and your classmates come rushing in. Sarah holds up the banner, featuring beautiful, oversized paintings of the cupcakes. The entire class cheers! The cupcakes are safe, and the party is back on!
The End.
