The Wizard's Curse

Your chest tightens as you think about the mirror maze, the laughter from the carnival, and the world you left behind. "I'm really sorry," you say. "I want to help... but I don't know how long I can stay here. I need to focus on getting back home." The fairy's wings dim slightly, and the unicorn's mane ripples in a worried wave. "We understand," the unicorn says gently. The fairy and the unicorn walk with you anyway, guiding you toward the paths that lead to the wizard's castle. "We'll show you the fastest way," the unicorn promises. The fairy sprinkles a bit of glowing dust ahead. The path shimmers and stretches forward, straight and hopeful. You start down it, moving fast, eager to get home. But after a few steps, the ground ripples. Then the path curls and bends. You try to keep following it, but then it loops. And suddenly you're staring at the same spot where you started from. "That's... not right," you mutter. "Try the other path," the fairy says quickly. You walk carefully, counting your steps. But you end up at the start again. The unicorn sighs. "It keeps happening." The fairy's wings droop. "The paths are tangled by the spell. They won't lead anyone forward unless the arguing starts to untangle too." It looks like you will need to help the unicorns and fairies in order to get home.
